Operations update during COVID-19 restrictions - May 2020 bulletin (PDF, 193.29 KB)

Updated: Thursday 30th April 2020

In light of the present situation regarding the COVID-19 virus (also known as the Coronavirus) the Board's Chairperson has directed that all "in person" hearings will be suspended until further notice.

The Board is considering other strategies for hearings where possible. These include:

  • identifying hearings that can be conducted without parties being physically present, and
  • generally investigating supporting technology to enable conducting directions hearing and final hearings by teleconference or video conference where appropriate.

At present, to protect the health and safety of staff, practitioners and the broader community, our teams are working remotely. As a result, we are asking that all enquiries be made in the first instance via email to registry@buildingappeals.vic.gov.au. A member of the team will respond to your enquiry as soon as practicable. All filing of materials should also be, as far as practicable, emailed to registry@buildingappeals.vic.gov.au.

We also ask that all new applications are submitted electronically via email to registry@buildingappeals.vic.gov.au, rather than in hard copy form. If possible, payment should be made by credit card, due to a possible delay in processing payments by cheque.

You can also continue to access information, forms and live chat here on our website.

Unfortunately, some delays may be experienced in the receipt and assessment of applications received by the Board, as well as responding to enquiries by email.

The Board apologises in advance for any inconvenience caused and will continue to make every effort to proceed within the timeframes set by the Building Act 1993 and the building regulations as well as giving the proper consideration of the matter.

More information will be posted when it becomes available.
